Rewards and Sanctions

BETTER BEHAVIOUR

At Beacon Rise we operate a Better Behaviour Policy throughout the school from Reception to Year 6. This is to ensure that discipline is upheld in every classroom and that all children have a calm environment in which to learn and in which teachers are able to teach.

The rules of the policy are on display in every classroom and all the children are aware of the rewards and the punishments. We try to concentrate on the positive, and praise or reward wherever possible.

The Rewards include:

  • teachers congratulate children;

  • teachers give children house points;

  • 3 rewards to be negotiated by the class teacher and their class for ‘100 class points’ reached.

  • Better behaviour certificates to be given each term. To be given to a child who does not get to XX in one day in the behaviour book for a term.

  • At least 2 certificates/stickers to be given to children each day to take home to share with parents.

  • Plenty of praise.  This makes everyone feel good.

  • If there are no names in the behaviour book for a week then 5 minutes can be added onto privilege time.

  • There are Celebration Boards in Avon and Severn halls.

  • Weekly Star Pupil certificates.

  • Respect Award to the class demonstrating the best care for others each week.

  • Good behaviour raffle draw during Friday’s assembly.

The Sanctions are:

  • Name recorded – a warning no sanctions

  • Further breaking of the rules – X – five minutes isolated in classroom.

  • Further breaking of the rules – XX – twenty minutes time out in another class in the same block with appropriate task.

  • Further breaking of the rules – XXX – return to other class for further 20 minutes and then lose 15 minutes from next available playtime.

  • Further breaking of the rules – XXXX sent to Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher and kept for rest of the session.

  • Further breaking of the rules – XXXXX sent back to Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher for remainder of the day and parents are contacted.

For persistent disruptive/bad behaviour the pupil’s parents will be invited into school to discuss the problem.

Pupils are encouraged to make a fresh start each day.

Everyone feels very strongly that there must be a consistent policy operating within the school, so that the children are clear about, and understand the rules. It is not fair on the class teachers or the other children in the class to have someone in the room who is continually disruptive or disobedient. It is for this reason that we operate the Better Behaviour Policy, so that children can work and learn in a happy and calm environment.

This policy includes aspects of ‘Circle Time’.  ‘Circle Time’ raises the self esteem of teachers and pupils and consequently helps pupil understanding and tolerance of others and improves behaviour.

BULLYING

Bullying will not be tolerated in school and is dealt with seriously and as soon as possible. The Governors have an anti bullying policy which is available from the school office.
