2011 Maths Days

What an exciting, mathematical start to term 4 - two shape days.  The aim of our maths days was to experience shapes and patterns in many different ways, to be creative and to have fun!  The week started with the children and staff creating incredible Shape Hats!  These hats were paraded at a special assembly, with prizes handed out for the best idea in each class. Lots of shape-themed projects took place over the two days such as the design of shape board games, writing shape stories and creating a 3D village.  Our maths days ended with a second special assembly where we shared our shape projects.  There were also opportunities to find and make shapes outdoors including the fundraising coin challenge.  The children made numerous shapes on the playgrounds with all their spare change, raising a fantastic £344.74.

Here are some of the views of the pupils:

“I enjoyed making my shape hat at home with my family and wearing it in assembly. ”
“I never knew mosaics could be so interesting, so many shapes and patterns. ”
“I thought the shape hunt was really enjoyable because it involved a lot of team work and it was challenging”.
“I liked making tessellation patterns because really made me think!”
“I liked making shapes on the playground by linking arms.”
“I learnt a new shape –a chiliagon!”
