HEADITORIAL
It seems like a long time since the beginning of the new term, with snowy days, financial audits and much more making the time fly by.
After lots of disruption over the last few weeks, the children have now settled into a more normal routine and it has been a great pleasure to see how well their learning is developing. Our new model of delivering the curriculum, based around engaging skills teaching, has led to many smiling faces, and it has been great to see the pupils having lots of fun whilst learning at a very encouraging pace.
Netball
On Tuesday 9th February 2010, Cheeky Chimps played Barrs Court Primary school (away). This was our second match of the league. In the first quarter Sam and Amy scored for Beacon Rise, which made us two-nil up. In the second quarter Ellie scored another goal. In the third and final quarter Barrrs Court scored one goal, but Emily and Amy scored another five goals for Beacon Rise! The final score was 8-1 to us. Our coaches supported us all the time. Amy was named as 'Star Player'. Great playing!
Staffing news
We are pleased to pass on the news that Mrs Shepherd and Mrs Murphy are expecting their first children, though they will be greatly missed during their maternity leave starting after the Easter break. The appointments of teachers to cover their roles during their absence will take place over the next few weeks. It is also great to welcome back to Mrs Jones who has taken over a Year 1 class for the remainder of the year.
Punctuality
Thank you to those pupils who are making the effort to arrive on time every morning for the start of school. Unfortunately several pupils are still arriving after 8.50am. Class registration closes at 9.00am and any pupil arriving after this time must go to the school office to be registered. All late arrivals are closely monitored by the Authority and any pupil arriving after registration has closed will be referred to Education Welfare. Please remember that pupils arriving late not only cause disruption to the class but may start their day feeling anxious and distressed. We have your child’s best interests at heart and would appreciate your co-operation with this.
Morning Arrangements
On dry days parents should not be entering Avon Building in the mornings. If you wish to speak to the class teacher please do so when they come out to collect their class or contact the school office to make an appointment if a longer discussion is required. Taking your children into the building does not support their independence and can lead to separation anxiety as the child gets older.
Please remember that when pupils come into school they should be lining up with the rest of their class on the main playgrounds and not playing in other areas.
On very wet mornings reception and nursery parents can bring their children into Frome Hall until the teachers open their classrooms to pupils at 8.50. Please ensure that pupils who are waiting in school at this time stay with parents and behave in an appropriate manner. This can only happen in extreme weather conditions as the wet and dirty hall floor that results from so many soggy feet, prams etc. makes PE lessons unsafe and uncomfortable for bare footed children when school begins.
If you child’s classroom is in Avon Building (KS1 and Y3) or Severn Building (Y4,5 and 6) they are also allowed into school before 8.50 as we would prefer them not to get wet before school. Please do not come into school with your child at this time as the restricted entrances and exits result in certain children becoming anxious as a result of the congestion and noise. If you would like a message passed to the class teacher please let the office know.
Please avoid entering the school in the mornings via the steps of Frome building to get to the office. This is the cloakroom area for our younger pupils and they need to be able to sort themselves out, not easy for a five year old with hats, scarves and gloves, without adults trying to squeeze through.
Breakfast Club
Following consultation with parents which identified a lack of need for a breakfast club, it was decided not to open such a facility at the school. However, certain parents have asked if we know of any local alternatives. With this in mind we are sending home a flyer from ‘Sharon’s House Breakfast Club’ for you to consider. Please be aware that this provision is not promoted by, or organised in connection with, Beacon Rise School.
Netball
Well done to the Beaca Bears and Cheeky Chimps netball teams who recently won the Hanham netball tournament against some excellent opposition. The Cheeky Chimps who won the overall prize will now represent Beacon Rise at a county level fixture.
FMSIS
The school has recently been awarded the Financial Management In Schools award. Congratulations to Mrs Joyner, our School Business Manager, for leading this successful application.
Tuck Shop
Please do not come into the school building before 3.15 in order to join the queue for tuck shop. The Reception children often find it difficult to collect their belongings at home time due to adults pushing through the cloakroom in order to spend less time waiting for their sweets. |
