HEADITORIAL
A huge thank you has to go to every child, parent, carer and all members of staff for all their hard work and commitment over this past year. There are still many exciting developments to come, but we should all be proud of what we have achieved so far.
It is also a time where we say goodbye to our year 6 pupils. We wish them all well for the future and look forward to them popping in to say hello with updates of how they are doing in their various new schools.
I hope everyone has a fun, safe and sunny summer. See you all in September.
Mr Thomas
STAFF CHANGES
We say goodbye to Mrs Emma Lee, Miss Carrie-Ann Cotton, Mrs Michelle Tippett , Mrs Lorraine Pearce and Mr Alan Reese. We shall miss them all and I hope you will join us in wishing them all well in the future.
SPORTS DAY
We were fortunate to have dry sunny weather for our sports days and all pupils, parents and staff enjoyed taking part in various events. A big thank you must go to Mrs Joan Crossland and Mrs Janet Noad for providing refreshments for all six events. We raised a massive £149.80 towards school fund. I hope you enjoyed the fun and excitement and competitive edge generated by the games.
BARN DANCE
On Saturday 19th FBR hosted a Barn Dance in the Frome Hall. This was such an enjoyable evening and proved a great success with all who came along. We never intended to raise funds from this event but it went so well we made £364.70 profit.
Thank you FBR for another worthwhile, fun and rewarding event.

YEAR SIX TESTS
We would all like to congratulate the Year 6 pupils on an amazing set of test results in Science, Mathematics and English. The children’s hard work, and high quality teaching across their time at Beacon Rise, has resulted in our highest ever exam results being achieved. The percentage of pupils achieving the national average expectation of Level 4 in Science , Mathematics and English was 100%, 93% and 90% respectively. Most importantly all pupils tried as hard as they could and achieved in excess of the aspirational targets we had set for them.
RESIDENTIAL VISIT
A great time was had by all on the residential visit. The staff were surprised by the sailing, climbing and skiing abilities of the pupils and still have the bruises to prove it. Heavy rain, and more mud than an average Glastonbury, didn’t spoil the fun and LLain will remember us for a long, long time.
SUMMER PLAN

This summer will see the refurbishment of the toilets in both Avon and Severn building. Extensive renovations will take the form of building works, re -plumbing and a complete re-fit of walls and floors.
The shelter and storage building at the top of the school will also be refurbished.
The ICT suite will be updated, with new PCs and projectors installed to enable more advanced ICT teaching.
Three classrooms in Avon will be redecorated. This will see the completion of the redecoration of Severn and Avon buildings that has been carried out over the last year. Next year will see the replacement of sub-standard furniture in Avon building, and this will complete the refurbishment of the KS1 and 2 buildings.
CREATIVE CURRICULUM
Next year we will be implementing a new method of subject delivery, with National Curriculum areas being taught in a creative cross-curricular manner. Objectives from different subject areas will be joined to create lessons that are fun, engaging and fit within a topic area. We will keep you updated as things develop.
INTERNATIONAL REPORT
We have successfully completed the first stage of our Comenius project with project meetings held in Sweden, Italy and here in Bristol. It has been a great experience working on our project Europe@Play with schools in other European countries and comparing the different education systems. Together we have created an extensive library of playground games which staff and children have really enjoyed playing and we have started to make plans to improve our play areas here at Beacon Rise.
Most classes now have French links for pen pals and email correspondence and have enjoyed learning about different customs in France, as well as having an opportunity to practise the French they have been learning in class. Next year we hope to extend our international links to include partnerships with China and Canada. Topics will be shared with partner schools leading to a greater global awareness and understanding of different cultures and customs around the world.
