Learning

Autumn Learning:

Year 4 have had a wonderful start to the year. We have enjoyed our topic “Horrible Histories” where we have been learning all about the Ancient Egyptians! We have created interesting fact files on “The Boy King” Tutankhamun and pyramids. We have learned about the gruesome mummification process and even mummified our own subject (it was an orange!). Our topic learning culminated in a creating our own wonderful documentaries about an aspect of Ancient Egyptian life. In English, we have written our own Ancient Egyptian story and even transported ourselves back to 1922 to become news reporters for the discovery of King Tut’s tomb!

Year 4 have had a wonderful second term! We have put on an amazing Christmas carol concert and all children contributed to making this such a wonderful event. Our topic – Staying Positive – has been thoroughly enjoyed by all! Our science has been focusing on the wonders of electricity. We’ve learned all about how electricity is sent around our houses and the importance of electrical safety. We’ve created a range of interesting circuits and this has culminated in our DT project where we have created our own electrical buzzer games! In PE, we’ve created dances to a robot story as well as playing football. We’ve created some wonderful explanation texts in English and written some beautiful stories based on “The Wild Robot”. In maths, we’ve tackled fractions and decimals with great enthusiasm and have always given our best!

Spring Learning:

Year 4 have had an exciting start to their “Movie Mayhem” topic. We enjoyed watching Toy Story to start our topic and produced some amazing film reviews in our English lessons! We have learned about some interesting areas of the film industry and used this information to plan our own short films and these are ready to be filmed in Term 4! Watch out Hollywood! In Computing, we have been learning all about sound editing and used our new skills to plan and record our own podcasts. We have enjoyed learning about how different religions decide what is right and wrong in RE and all about our dreams and goals in PSHE. We’re looking forward to carrying on our exciting topic next term!

Year 4 continued their ‘Movie Mayhem’ topic in term 4 and were able to go to the cinema for a private screening of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish! In English, the children wrote their own adventure stories based on the film Finding Nemo and used suspense and detailed description to keep us all engaged. We have learned all about data in ICT and have been able to answer questions by collecting and analysing different data sets. In science, we have been learning about the body and squirmed as Mr Keat demonstrated the digestive system using a pair of tights and a disgusting mixture of food and drink! We also experimented with eggshells to explore the effects of different liquids on our teeth’s enamel.
