Learning

Autumn Learning:

What a fantastic first term at school we have had.

We are really impressed with how quickly all the children have settled into school.

Some of the things we have done include:

  • Drawing and talking about the people who live in our homes
  • Learning about Rosa Parks and what is fair and unfair
  • Exploring the different sounds we can make in the music garden
  • Meeting Blossom our school dog
  • Making patterns with honey loops
  • And practising our cursive writing.

We also had a fab time during Create Week and enjoyed our first Adventure Day through our Autumn Celebration.

Term 2

During this term, we focused on learning about festivals and celebrations. We began with Diwali, and it was wonderful to see all the incredible homework the children brought in. We learned about the story of Rama and Sita, as well as the traditions associated with Diwali. In music, we explored celebrations through music from around the world, including Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Christmas. We had a great time raising money for Children in Need through our dance-off and spotty drawings. In art, we studied the artist Kandinsky and created circle paintings inspired by his work. We even had the opportunity to meet some endangered animals during a puppet show called “The Zoo That Comes To You.” In maths, we explored patterns in numbers and colours and practised composing the number 4. Another celebration we learned about was Bonfire Night, including important safety tips. We even made our own edible sparklers! Practising and performing our nativity play has been fun, and we had a wonderful time celebrating Christmas by making cards for one another and decorating the school with our Santa decorations.

Spring Learning:

Term 3

What a fantastic term we have had! We loved watching the Aladdin panto, had a great time on NSPCC Number day and attended our first school disco. Our topics have covered Myths and Legends. We learnt about The legends of the Bristol Giants and the origins story of the Chinese Zodiac. In Maths, we have been learning how to compose numbers to 5, 6 and 7. Our Music lessons this term have helped us use our bodies to explore pitch and tempo. In art, we have worked on our cutting and stamping skills. In Physical Education, we have been working on combining muscle movements and different movement techniques through relay races.

Term 4

What a fantastic term we have had in EYFS! We have been busy learning all about the people who help us. We learned how to dial 999 and what to say during an emergency. We discovered the roles of various helpers in our community and even had a visit from some paramedics who brought an ambulance! Additionally, we learned about Ramadan and celebrated Eid with our classmates. We also created Mother’s Day and Easter cards and explored the importance of recycling materials.

Summer Learning:

Term 5

What a term we have had! We have been learning all about space, constellations, and what it is like to live on the International Space Station. We’ve explored minibeasts and the plant habitats they prefer. Additionally, we studied Isambard Kingdom Brunel and learned how to design and build our own bridges. We also sorted items into groups like a computer does. Furthermore, we worked on our agility and speed, showcasing these skills during our amazing sports day. Lastly, the EYFS team said a fond farewell to Mrs. Morse by throwing her a wonderful surprise party!

Summer Learning:

Term 6

What a wonderful last term we have had!

We enjoyed our first whole-school Play Day! Jungle Day was a fantastic experience where we met an iguana and trekked through the jungle during our Drama Workshop. We were also thrilled to meet our new teachers and spend two mornings in Year One. The trip to Avon Valley was an unforgettable day for everyone.

Despite having such a jam-packed term, we also accomplished some great learning. Thank you to all our parents for your incredible support this year; your participation makes a powerful difference.
